Light in the Darkness
An Online Memorial Service for Those Who Have Suffered Loss
Tuesday 23rd June, 8PM, Youtube
'Light in the darkness' is a special service that we are organising alongside some friends. Its purpose is to remember all those we loved who are no longer with us - including those who have died since the outbreak of Coronavirus, as well as those we lost many years ago. Our hope for this hour-long service of hymns, songs, readings and reflections is that it brings comfort in the grief, peace in the pain and light in the darkness to all who walk, as Psalm 23 in the bible puts it, 'in the valley of the shadow of death.'
As a parish church we know of those in our community who have been unable to attend the funerals of loved ones, or to process the grief of loss in this complicated time. We also know that many have had old losses churned up in new ways, and other hardships and hopelessness to deal with. This service came out of a desire to acknowledge the pain of those we know and those we don’t, and to give them an opportunity to take time to reflect, remember and receive some comfort.
It will go out as a YouTube premiere at 8pm on Tuesday 23rd June and we’re inviting those for whom it might be helpful to watch online. It will feature hymns and music, readings and reflections and some time to light a candle in remembrance of our loss. We believe that God offers comfort to the broken-hearted, hope to the hopeless and light in places of darkness so it’s our prayer that He will do that through this online service.
Please help us to share this service with those who may be experiencing grief and for whom this service could be some comfort. For any further information email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 020 3637 2701.
