"I had been striving to make it as an actor for several years, struggling for some time with the way my life was panning out. It most certainly hadn't been going according to my plans. I had been involved in several failed relationships and had been employed in a variety of jobs, and even though I considered myself a 'good' person my morality at times could bend to suit the circumstances.
Last year an old friend from University invited me to an Alpha Supper. Initially I was very sceptical, uncertain about the whole thing, and had pretty much made up my mind not to attend. After all I had been a die-hard atheist for most of my adult life - what could I possibly get out of Alpha?
God had different plans however. The year before, he had sown the ground with a play I had toured with for the Salvation Army. I got to meet and stay with quite a few of the Ministers or Majors as they are known and thought that they were interesting and generous people who believed in God. Also prior to the Alpha course I had had quite a few conversations with a good friend of mine who is a Christian and who is not shy in talking about his faith.
Finally I decided to attend - I told myself, "I'll get a free dinner, a few glasses of wine, listen to a Jazz band and get to meet some new people". The highlight of the evening however, was hearing Hannah who was leading the Alpha course talk about the true relevance of Christianity. The talk was challenging but also inspiring. At this stage however, I still didn't commit to attending the course.
Another week passed and I decided to go along to the first full meeting with discussion groups. I told myself that if it was all a lot of nonsense I would know that and could walk away easily, but if Christianity was true then maybe I should at least try and find out.
In the end I attended most of the sessions. The talks were always informative and challenged my preconceptions, and during the course I opened up my heart to accepting that there is a God and that Jesus is my Lord and Saviour and that my sins are forgiven.
Since then my life has been transformed - in more ways than I could possibly have imagined. I have an active prayer life, read the Bible for inspiration and I have made many new friends. I also met the gorgeous Davina during rehearsals for the Christmas carol concert, we started dating in the New Year, fell in love and we are getting married in November. I'm pursing new career in the Post-Production industry and although it can be very challenging, I know that God will provide."
